Tuesday Tip – Top tips for cosying up your living room

By Tanya Chapman

Think of the area in your house you spend most of your waking hours in and the chances are it’ll be the living room.

It’s the place we all like to go at the end of a hectic day to enjoy a couple of hours in front of the TV or reading the paper. However, it’s possible that yours could do with a little cosying up, which is why you’ll need to think about giving it a makeover.

There’s no reason why your living space shouldn’t be in top shape. Whether you’re giving your real estate a facelift or are getting it ready for sale, a knockout living room can make a real difference.

Choose your colours wisely

Colours are known to have a direct impact on the look or feel of a room, so it’s essential to choose your pallet wisely when redecorating your living area.

Darker shades are great when the winter months come around but might be unbearably hot during the summer, so make a decision that’s well suited to your climate.

Soft furnishings

Another investment you’ll need to make in a living room is soft furnishings, as these can make the space feel more comfortable without spending too much money.

This is also a great way to add a splash of colour, and the best part is they can be changed regularly with little expense.

Invest in mood lighting

The odd lamp here and there can make a real impact to the feel of your living space, so why not invest in a few?

Think where they’re going to come in most useful. Is there an area you like to curl up in and read a book? Could you do with a dimmer switch for more flexibility?

Throws – fun and functional

Another way to add some flare to your living room is by adding a few throws. You can use them to cover yourself as you curl up on the sofa, or simply have them for decorative purposes.

With so many colours and fabrics available, the only difficulty you might have is choosing the one you like best!

Little extras

Some extra touches can make a living room feel more homely, so think about investing in some candles or flowers to add an element of interest to the space.

Spending just a few dollars here and there can really enhance the area even if you’re on a tight budget
